About BioSyn
BioSyn is a free library of laboratory calculators for molecular biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, cell culture and general lab math. Every tool runs entirely in your browser: you type a value, the calculation happens on your device, and the result appears instantly. Nothing is uploaded, no account is required, and no experimental data leaves your computer.
Who writes and maintains BioSyn
Content is produced and reviewed by the BioSyn Scientific Editorial Team, a group of writers and reviewers with laboratory backgrounds who build the calculators, write the accompanying guides and check each formula against primary sources before a tool goes live.
We publish under a team byline rather than an individual name on purpose. We do not invent named experts, professional credentials, institutional affiliations or reviewer profiles to look more authoritative. What we can stand behind is the work itself: the formulas, the unit handling, the worked examples and the cited sources are all open for you to inspect on every page. Where a topic would genuinely require a licensed specialist to review it, we say so instead of fabricating a reviewer.
How we grade the trustworthiness of a source
Every calculator and guide cites where its numbers come from. We sort sources into three tiers so you can judge how much weight a given constant or method carries.

A single Tier C source is never enough to ship a number. If we cannot find at least one Tier A or Tier B reference for a constant, we leave the value out rather than guess at something that merely looks reasonable.
How we verify and update calculations
Before a calculator goes live we check it in four steps:
- Confirm the formula and every constant against a Tier A or Tier B source and record the citation on the page.
- Convert all inputs to a canonical unit internally, then convert back for display, so unit handling cannot drift.
- Run worked examples with real numbers and compare the output against the cited reference's own examples.
- Record the method version and a last reviewed date, shown at the bottom of each tool.
Each page displays the month it was last reviewed. When we change a date we also re-check the content — we never bump a "reviewed" stamp without actually looking at the tool again. The full process, including the unit engine and validation rules, is described on themethodology page.
Corrections policy
If you spot a wrong number, a broken example or a citation that does not support the claim it backs, tell us. Send the page URL, what looks wrong and the source you believe is correct to the address on our contact page. We review every correction, and when a change is warranted we update the tool, re-run its examples and revise the reviewed date. We would rather fix a calculator quickly than defend a mistake.
How BioSyn is funded
BioSyn is free to use and carries no paywall, login or upsell. The site is supported by unobtrusive display advertising through Google AdSense. Ads are kept below the calculator so they never interfere with the tool or with reading the method. Details are in ourprivacy policy.
